Terms and Concepts
- Meter – The “heartbeat” of a song.
- Pacing – The speed of a composition.
- Tempo – The speed of which the notes are being played.
- Beat – A rhythmic movement.
- Hip Hop – A genre of music using synthetic sounds sometimes known as rap music.
- Out of the Pocket – Out of timing with the music.
- Quantize – Fixing beats.
- Single Take – Recording the same thing only once.
- Multipass Recording – Recording the same thing multiple times.
- Overdub – Recording over something.
- C1 Octave Range – A specific piano key.
- Cowbell (note in MIDI) – A bell that was put on cows at one time.
- Kick Drum (note in MIDI) – The biggest part of the drum kit and the lowest sounding drum.
- Snare Drum (note in MIDI) – a rattling sound that the drum makes.
